Lumasonic Planes is a temporary, experimental light-and-sound installation that enacts a rudimentary form of sentience — sensing its own process of converting light into sound and making light audible to participants. Through real-time conversion of light frequencies to sound via Spectro-Sonic Refrequencing (SSR), the work augments human perception, activating the boundary between biological and technological sensing. Presented in collaboration with the Berggruen Institute at the Bradbury Building, the installation served as the occasion for a salon in the ongoing series on the Future of the Human — bringing together artist Johannes Girardoni, neuroscientist Adam Gazzaley, and Claire Isabel Webb, Associate Director of the Future Humans program. The work explores how the convergence of art and science expands our understanding of mind and cognition, opening new philosophical perspectives on what it means to be human.
